May 9, 2009 - Women racers offering a day at the races for Breast Cancer survivors and supporters

Baytown, TX. - Four NHRA Drag Racers are proud to announce 'A Day at the Races' to support breast cancer research, education, screening and treatment.  Top Dragster driver, Tina Stull, Kate and Diana Harker from the Top Alcohol Dragster ranks and Peggy Llewellyn of Pro Stock Motorcycle, will be providing opportunities to various Texas foundations and including the 1 in 8 foundation in order to raise awareness of this life and death issue.

"Breast cancer is a reality for women these days" says Diana "When 1 in 8 women will be effected by breast cancer it is easy to say, 'I won't be the 1' . But then if you say "Do I know 8 women?', You realize this does effect you no matter how you look at it."

Betting on the fact that Drag Racing, traditionally a "man's" sport and breast cancer, a predominately womens issue are a surprising partnership. These racers are painting the big picture and hoping that people see, this cancer is highly treatable when detected early and the days of false modesty are behind us.

Kate's opinion is strong "let's face it, our culture flaunts breasts on TV, on-line and everywhere else, but then when it comes to breast cancer and detection we shut up.  This is life and death folks!"

In Motorsports, all drivers face life and death everytime they get in their car.  But in race they minimize theirs risks through protect measures, helmets, fire proof suits, cages in the cars, and most of all safety restraint systems.

"We don't wear seatbelts because they are comfortable, we wear to save our lives."say Stull  "You don't wait til you crash to put them on. The same is true  with Breast cancer detection, it is a means to save your life, Breast Cancer is survivable if detected early."

They will be looking forward to meeting and greeting those who share in their passion to save lives. Main Hospitality pit can be found in the sportman area at Tina Stull's pit. Look for the bright green Young Life - Club Beyond car T/D #404

Tickets are available: Cancer survivors and supporters can request tickets for the upcoming Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event across May 15-17 through www.harkertwins.com

April 4, 2009 - Our own Action Team Member Thomas Ramies son, Micheal Ramies gets  two 1st and two 2nd place wins!!! Fastest lap in all four races!

What a weekend! 38 racers in all!  Michael  had to work hard because one group was the SUPER fast Southern boys that came to Laguna Seca for their series!  The two Southern kids (both have private coaches and sponsors!!!) http://michaeldorrbecker.com/index.html and http://www.dennistrebing.com/  (Skip Barber Karting shootout  scholarship winner!) Michael had about a 20 car length lead over  these racers in the first part of the race.....After two restarts (people crashing) Michael finished 1st! One of the instructors said that it was the most intense race EVER at Skip Barber!  Michael's car even had a bent rim, which made the battle even more difficult!  In the second race Michael beat the Western Series Group by 9 seconds, that is ETERNITY in racing!   In the 3rd race Michael was against the Southern boys once again. Another racer crashed Michael's car in the previous race, so they gave him a new car at the last minute (an untested car with rear tires that looked worn out).  Well, Michael kept it in 1st the whole race with nose cones on the back of his tranny!  Last turn to the checkered flag, Michael's car wiggled enough for Michael Dorrbecker to take the win, Michael placed 2nd by a half of a second!  Fourth race in the Western group. They took Michael's 1st car away because they said it tripped the decibel meter of 85 (Michael was bummed because he said that the car was perfect).  Once again they pulled out another untested race car!  Michael started on the pole and quickly fell back to 5th...NO POWER!  He couldn't even stay in anyone's draft. BUT he was able to work the car hard in the turns and came in a super close second behind Emil Sildos... by get this .098 of a second!!!  Amazing... just Michael, me and my AMEX card against kids with private coaches and sponsors!

March 1, 2009 - Tom Simon was born and raised in New Jersey, and has recently relocated to the Raleigh/Durham area.  He is new to the 1in 8 team, and will be overseeing opportunities in music to help bring awareness to the foundation and the cause it represents.

Tom has spent the last 8 years of his life working in the music industry at Universal Republic/Universal Motown Records as a international project manager.  His passion to work in music was born when he went to Muhlenberg College (Allentown, PA) in 1997 and signed up to be a DJ at WMUH radio his first day on campus.  He already had a diverse music background, and quickly became music director for the radio station, the first person to obtain the position as a freshmen, which he held for his college career.  This helped develop his love for music and opened up new genres and avenues in an industry that is constantly adapting and struggling to maintain it's importance in today's popular culture.  Two days after graduating with a BA in Communications, he started at Universal, where he started as an assistant for the VP of International and rose through the ranks.  He's worked with such artists at 3 Doors Down, Hinder, Stevie Wonder, Jack Johnson and Nelly, just to name a few.  Along the way, his hard work and creative thinking helped develop these careers in a challenging international music environment.  He's looking forward to bringing music into the foundation as a vehicle to help spread awareness and create new opportunities for the foundation to grow.

March 1, 2009 - 1in8 Motorsports welcomes, Steve Sudler, Co-Owner, Team 3G.

Steve Sudler, an 18-year veteran of the motorsports industry and sports marketing, teamed with long-time IndyCar owner Greg Beck to form Team 3G in 2008.

A native of Plainfield, Indiana, and a graduate of Indiana University with a degree in Organizational Communication, Sudler started his motorsports career as a crew member for Arciero Racing and driver Randy Lewis in 1990. While there, Sudler developed a passion for the business side of motorsports, having worked with sponsors such as Oracle, Samsung, Novell, and AMP.

The next stop was Koni Shock Absorbers division of ITT Automotive, where he was the Motorsports Marketing Manager. In this role, Sudler was responsible for all motorsports product marketing and sponsorships in IndyCar, NASCAR, and grassroots racing.

In 1999, Sudler joined Just Marketing International, which has grown to become one of the leading motorsports marketing agencies in the Industry. As one of its first employees he was responsible for the growth of the firm’s client base, which now includes Diageo, Subway, Lenovo, Hilton, and LG as some of its clients.

Sudler joined leading IndyCar team Walker Racing in 2000 to develop an in-house sponsorship sales and marketing group. While at Walker Racing, the team and driver Sarah Fisher were selected by Advertising Age Magazine as one of the "Top 100 Marketers" of 2001. Through his years with Walker Racing, the team successfully developed "targeted sponsorship" programs aimed at reaching a particular audience through racing, such as the female audience with Sarah Fisher. Other programs included an Asian platform with Tora Takagi and Toyota, and Hispanic with Rodolfo Lavin and Corona Beer. Walker Racing was a pioneer in developing business-to-business driven sponsor partnerships, and was the first IndyCar team to have sponsorship from China, with the Air China partnership in 2003.

With many challenges facing the sport, he left open wheel racing in 2005 and moved to the Charlotte area to work with a number of top agencies and brands on their NASCAR programs. Sudler worked with Toyota on their entry into the NASCAR series, and assisted other brands such as NTN Bearings, Hershey, Kraft, Pfizer, GMAC, and Redbull with their motorsports marketing efforts. As the Director of Motorsports for global sports marketing agency Wasserman Media Group, Sudler and his team guided the company to become strategic marketing consultants for sponsors and teams in the sport. There success included the launch of RedBull Racing in NASCAR, as well as securing Nationwide as a Series sponsor in NASCAR.

As co-owner of Team 3G, Sudler will oversee marketing and partnership development operations for the company and racing programs. Along with Greg Beck, he will also direct the long-term commercial development and continued expansion of a full-fledged "ladder system" for drivers and sponsors.

March 1, 2009 - For Chad Eric Miller, the pursuit of happiness through horsepower started at an early age. One of his earliest memories is of a parade lap he co-piloted at Road Atlanta with his father in a classic car. The grin he had in that moment, has now been bored at least .30 over. He is a graduate of the Illinois Center for Broadcasting, and was once a guest radio host at the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame. Art projects, writing, and music, all occupy some of his free time when he isn't using his dynamic creativity in professional realms.

Chad will be the US Marketing Consultant on The Great University Build-Off. He has had hotrod 4x4's, motor swapped imports, a couple of motorbikes, and daydreams in all the possibilities of performance and customization for anything with wheels. Four wheeling, the 1/4 mile, rallycross, autocross, and spending all nighters just to read new motorsport magazines are not uncommon. His father unfortunately was taken by cancer, and Chad will never forget the passion they shared for performance. The 1 in 8 is an awesome foundation for him to honor his father and he looks forward to 2009, it will be an exciting year.

January 26, 2009 - Born in the Bay Area and educated in the heart of the Silicon Valley, Jonathan Silva had dreams of greatness from a very young age. He started his first company at 16 and sold it shortly after graduating Santa Clara University. Over the years that he owned the business, Jonathan had amassed 15 small business partners and five larger corporate partners. When the company was sold it was bringing in over a quarter million dollars a year despite only operating part-time while attending university. Jonathan then went on to work for Sirius Satellite Radio where he ran their OEM Automotive Division within Northern CA. After two years, he left Sirius to run the West Coast marketing and sales operation for a green technologies company based in Sunrise, FL. These last few jobs put an ever increasing distance between Jonathan and his passion for motorsports and the automotive aftermarket. Late last year he decided it was time to get back to what he loved. So, he is currently breaking away once again to restart where he left off years ago by reopening his automotive marketing and promotions company. His newly formed operation currently represents two major tuners, a race track, and a very promising young driver whom the world will soon come to know and love. Jon's the newest member of our 1 in 8 Team.

January 25, 2009 - Louise Steinback is a real go-getter and one of the new members of the Action Team. Her interest in Breast Cancer awareness unfortunately came early in her life.  At age 18, she discovered a lump in her right breast.  It was removed and it was benign.  She, of course, was relieved but her doctor advised get to get annual mammograms to prevent missing something important in the future.  Well it did happen, at age 41 she found another lump.  It was a tumor and it was removed on December 19th.  Everything was contained, and she opted for no further treatment but she does check every week and get a mammogram every 6 months.

Unfortunately, her husband’s chance of getting breast cancer is even greater than hers.  His mother died of breast cancer 4 years ago and every one of her sisters has battled breast cancer.  She had 5 sisters.

Louise’s daughter had her first scare at 21 years old.  Louise prays that her scares are over.   Louise  tells her that she must keep on top of it and never ever forget!

Louise is passionate about working for the 1 in 8 organization to help raise awareness and money for the uninsured or under insured.  She likes to take the unconventional route on many things and has recently closed a deal with the Chicago Blackhawks and is very close to closing a deal with the Professional Championship Bull Riders.   She’s hoping to make everyone that she can touch aware of Breast Cancer Early Detection.   If we can have everyone detect their disease early not only will the survival rate skyrocket but the very expensive drag that uninsured or under insured victims of breast cancer will be decreased greatly.  Everyone wins.

January 24, 2009 - Michael Ramies is the newest member of our Honorary Board and was born on February 2, 1991, in Portola Valley, California. rom a very young age Michael had a passion for cars. He loved everything about them, especially the speed, and knew that one day he wanted to be a race car driver.

His driving career was off to a good start when he received a battery operated Porsche for Christmas when he was almost 3. He then moved up to a gas powered go-kart at the age of 4. After that, when he was 12 years old, he participated in his first karting series through the Jim Russell Karting School at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, California. He participated in this program for the next several years until he felt he was ready to move into open wheel formula racing. In 2006, at the age of 15, Michael participated in his first open wheel racing competition through the Skip Barber Western Regional Race Series at Laguna Seca in Salinas, California. In this series he took the podium five times, placed 11^th overall out of 110 drivers and took the 4^th place title for his sportsman group. Furthering his open wheel racing career, Ramies then entered the 2007 Jim Russell Championship Series in the spring, where he was the youngest driver in the series. No stranger to the podium, Ramies made it there five times and placed 15^th overall out of 100 participants, even with a late start into the series and four races behind. In the fall of 2007 he returned to Skip Barber where was now in the Championship group. The competition was intense, but he walked away with a 4^th place overall finish. Then, again, he returned to Skip Barber in the fall of 2008 where he is currently competing and proving himself to be a true contender as he just beat out last year’s champion for the first place finish in January. Out of his six races so far, he has been on the podium six times and currently holds the overall 2^nd place title in points.

His dream, of course, is to become a professional race car driver. He has been offered a seat with The Racers Group (TRG) to drive a Porsche Carrera 997 in their upcoming 2009 Grand Am Koni Challenge series. Since this price tag is out of reach for his parents they are still searching for potential sponsors. He has also been offered a job to test and develop a Nissan GTR for the Red Line Time Attack series. In the fall of 2008, he was asked to be the new *USF1* poster child and is currently in negotiations to participate in their driver development program. His momentum is certainly building and he looks forward to what the future will bring.

Ken also took the time to hang out with some of his old friends and forge some new relationships. Indycar legend, Johnny Rutherford spent days signing autographs for his many fans. He also had the chance to spend some time with Indy 500 Winner, Dario Franchitti, exchanging stories about PPG/Indycar.

Drag racing legend Tom, “Mongoose” McEwen was there and the dynamic NHRA Top Alcohol Team of Diana and Kate Harker, were greeting their rapidly growing fans.

1 in 8 board member and race driver, Amanda Hennessy, was signing autographs at the GH Wheel booth, and Swiss chocolate maker and race driver, Robert Dubler also made the rounds. James J. Wied, BCS President and CEO and Toby Clement, and Senior VP at BCS International, spent hours creating an exciting new relationship with the 1 in 8 and Ken had the chance to spend some time with Sam Posey.

There were old friends, like 1 in 8 board member  Mario Andretti but Ken also got to make some new friends like Stacey David or GEAZS TV, Vans shoe artist, PNUT, Mopar Legend, Mr. Norm and Motorsports expert, Lauren Fix.

One of the highlights of the week was Ken’s participation in a custom painting clinic hosted by the crew at West Coast Customs.

We’re proud to welcome Jonathan Ressler to the 1 in 8 Action Team. Prior to forming Big Fat Sports, an agency dedicated to connecting athletes with brands, Ressler served as Chief Marketing Officer to a number of companies in the mobile and social media arenas.  As CMO of Juice Wireless, Ressler was able to grow Juicecaster’s registered user base ten fold and led the rebranding of the award-winning JuiceCaster social media product and played a key role in the refinancing of the company.  Before Juice Wireless, in 1996, Ressler served as CMO of a public company, Oasys Mobile, which is an award winning international mobile application and game developer and marketer.  While at Oasys he closed many deals with some of the largest and most recognized brands in the world, leading them into the mobile space.

Jonathan Ressler founded Big Fat in 1999 upon identifying a void in the marketing industry – a company that could “think AND do!”   Ressler is widely recognized as a visionary in the marketing discipline and as such has been profiled and quoted by every major media outlet including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, CNN, 60 Minutes, Business Week and many others.  His obsession with pop culture and brand relevance caused Big Fat to become recognized as leaders in Guerilla, Stealth, Event and Entertainment Marketing.  As President/CEO he was responsible for developing and communicating the vision of the company as well as creating the corporate culture.  He also weighed in heavily on all client service issues and maintained consistent contact with all clients.

Prior to founding Big Fat, Inc., Ressler was Director of Client Services/Consultant on the United Distillers and Vintners (UDV) account at TLP, a strategic promotion agency in Wilton, Connecticut.  Before joining TLP, Ressler served as Chief Marketing Officer of B-12, where his responsibilities included management of all marketing activities, as well as the continued development of its brand identity.  Additionally, Ressler was responsible for new business development and identification of strategic alliances and corporate acquisitions.

Prior to working at B-12, Ressler was President of Ressler Marketing Group; a promotion and marketing company dedicated to nightlife, which was acquired by B-12 in 1997.  As President of Ressler Marketing Group, he was responsible for the creation of the On-Premise Impact Group, a network of more than 20,000 “promotion friendly” bars, restaurants and nightclubs across the United States.  He was personally responsible for the creation and implementation of tens of thousands of on-premise events for clients, including The NBA, Orion Pictures, Paramount Pictures, MTV, Comedy Central, Atlantic Records, Anheuser Busch, Beefeater, and Sauza among others.   His interaction and open line of communication with operators from around the United States have given him an unparalleled insight into the nightlife scene and the necessary elements to effect change.

Ressler is a contributing writer for Nightclub and Bar Magazine, Beer Wine & Spirits Beverage Retailer and PUBlication, as a beverage alcohol-marketing expert.  He is also a featured speaker in the field of promotions at the Nightclub and Bar Show and the Bar Essentials Exposition.  Additionally, he is on the Board of Directors of Nightclub and Bar Magazine, and has been retained to educate the sales and marketing staffs of top spirits companies in the world, including Diageo, Seagram and Allied Domecq.

Before entering the marketing industry, Ressler was the owner and operator of 10 nightclubs and bars in New York City.  Realizing that everyone sold the same product he looked for a way to set his establishments apart from the thousands of others in the crowded New York scene.  His strategy of “selling fun” rather than just food and drinks paid off. Ressler’s establishments were among the most popular in New York City.

In 1992, he invented the Human Bowling Ball, which first propelled him into the national spotlight.   Human Bowling is a game, which straps patrons inside of a 4- foot, ribbed steel ball and rolls them across the floor into six 5-foot high pins.  With stories and appearances in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, People Magazine, Good Day New York, Good Morning America, Live with Regis and Kathy Lee and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno among others, Ressler’s place in the nightlife world was cemented.   In 1992, Ressler also set up Human Bowling, Inc., which marketed and sold more than 2,500 Human Bowling sets throughout the world.

Ressler attended New York University and currently resides in Montclair, New Jersey with his wife and three children.

The 1 in 8 Action Team welcomes Sara Nycki. Sara was born and raised in Toronto, Canada.  While studying to become a lawyer, her career path changed and led her to co-owning a business at just 21 years of age.  Through family, friends and business, Sara was always the one to organise the party.  Parties large and small were handled with the every detail in mind. A true entrepreneur, Sara turned her party skills to running her own business in event planning.

A specific interest in combining events with special causes and fundraising lead her to 1in8 Motorsports Initiatives.  Years ago, Sara felt the impact of cancer with the sudden loss of her grandmother a mere two weeks after being diagnosed. Through intimate loss and affliction and an even stronger desire to prevent this disease from gaining in numbers, ‘going pink’ has become a growing priority in Sara’s life...

With plans to launch several initiatives throughout Canada, I look forward to seeing you at one soon!

Brian Chiou has joined the 1 in 8 Action Team as our internet marketing guru. He will be working on corporate partnerships and with on-line entities like MySpace, Craigslist, Facebook and Twitter. Here’s what Brian had to say about coning on board. “I recently joined the 1 in 8 team. I was lucky enough to meet Ken and his wife through Craigslist about an opportunity in becoming something much larger than my everyday life.

The 1 in 8 symbol of a clock definitely applies to our goals as an organization, and it’s up to us to have everyone understand the reasoning behind it. Viral markets are the way to achieve this goal both quickly and efficiently. I am sure everyone agrees that cancer does not just affect the person who has the illness, but also the people around them. I would consider myself collateral, because I have been that person who has seen cancer ravage a person that meant something to me.”

November 8, 2008 - Fire Bar and Grill, 435 Angela Lane, Crystal Lake, IL -held a 1in8 Foundation/Motorsports Breast Cancer Fundraiser.

October 7, 2008 - 1 in 8 Motorsports Official Specialty Wheel Company, GH is launching a major campaign to promote their new 1 in 8 Wheel. This campaign is beginning with major advertising in upscale automotive publications like Dupont Registry, and will continue with their presence at SEMA, where 1 in 8 board member, Amanda Hennessey will be in there to meet and greet.

Goin' Hard is what GH Wheels is all about.  Anyone who works really hard knows success doesn't come easily.  It's all about the sweat equity you've invested in the game.  Whether you're grinding at work or in the gym, GH Wheels represents that mentality of getting your hustle on and never giving up.

GH Wheels is a new breed of wheels that makes a personal statement about your lifestyle.  The original designs were inspired by weight plates at the gym and literally represented "taking the gym to the streets".  All the designs are fully customizable in colors and finishes.  Plus, the Barbell design even allows you to add text, numbers, or logos on the face.  Now you can use your wheels to rock your team name, jersey number, or give a shout out to your Hood.  Go Hard or Go Home is our motto.

During its big debut at the SEMA show in Las Vegas, 2007, GH Wheels introduced the first ever MMA themed wheel, thus positioning our company as the pioneer in connecting the fastest growing sport of Mixed Martial Arts with the custom wheel industry.  Another industry first claimed by GH Wheels is the introduction of the first rim to donate proceeds to charity.  GH Wheels will continue to develop partnerships with charitable organizations so that customers can make a statement with their vehicles while also making a difference in the world.

Be on the lookout for new GH Wheels designs set to release in 2009.  All GH Wheels products are guaranteed to be the highest quality, as all manufacturing is done here in the USA.

October 1, 2008 - Newman as Racer . . . and Marriage Counselor, Speed Style Magazine, article by Ken Vrana.

Ken Vrana snapped this along the way.

(Editor's Note: Ken Vrana, President and CEO of 1 in 8 Motorsports, interacted with Paul Newman while working for PPG/Indycar in the 90's.)

I worked around Paul Newman for nearly six years as part of my duties as a PPG/Indycar Official, and while he tended not to be too chatty on race weekends, we did have the opportunity to talk a few times. One time, I remember speaking to him about our mutual friend, the late actor, Jack Lemmon, but as I was a writer and producer myself, I was fascinated that he had little interest in discussing the film industry at the track. While he never said so, I always got the feeling that he also felt his Hollywood career helped him fund his racing activities and not the other way around.

I was also struck by his honestly at the track. While other race teams seemed more than willing -- some on a weekly basis -- to bend the rules when they thought they could get away with it, Paul and the Newman/Hass Team -- then racing with the Andrettis -- seemed to want to win based solely  on the preparation of their teams and equipment and the skill of their drivers. In all the years I worked as a Tech Official, whose responsibility it was to make sure no one's car was bending the rules, I  don't remember every catching one of Paul's cars doing that.

I do remember once, too, mentioning to him how his marriage to his wife seemed to have outlasted most other Hollywood marriages and I asked him  if he had any suggestions. He smiled and said the reason he and his  wife got along so well was that they seldom saw each other. Like ships  passing in the night, I believe was his phrase. "She does her thing and  I respect and support it. I do my thing and she respects and tolerates it . . . and then when we happen to be in the same place at the same time,  every once in a while, it's always like a first date. Also, you're far  less likely to get into fights when you see each other so seldom."

Aug. 6, 2008 Cary News, Cary, NC Plants needed to finish healing garden The 1 in 8 Foundation, recently names the fastest growing motorsports charity in the world, will open a garden where once a month, breast cancer patients can find peace and comfort.

His dream was shared by two of the largest hydrangea nurseries in the country and the Lowes Home Improvement Center in West Cary, which donated plants for the garden.

Breast cancer strikes one out of every 8 women in the United States. The 1 in 8 targets early detection.

A person who discovers their breast cancer early enough, has a nearly 90% chance of living out the rest of their life, Vrana said.

CARY, N.C. -- Anime cartoonists joined in the fight against breast cancer Sunday at Cary Towne Center.

Three local artists teamed with the Caitlin Foundation and the 1in8 Motorsports Series to kick off the
Speedsters campaign, which uses anime characters to help raise money and awareness for breast cancer.

Customers who donated $5 received a free ride on the mall carousel. Organizers say the event helps bring a different demographic into the breast cancer battle.

"I get that reaction from a lot of people. That's not the first thing they think of, said artist Caitlin Vrana. They think lets do a run or a race but I think this will alert people more because they're more interested in what matters to them not like with runs or events like that."

October 31, 2007 1 in 8 CEO, Ken Vrana talks to Indycar driver, Danica Patrick at SEMA, about whats been happening with the 1 in 8.
