Why is the organization called the 1in8?

Currently, one out of every eight women in the United States will be affected by breast cancer during their lifetimes.

How did the organization come about?

The 1in8 Foundation was created by writer and producer, Ken Vrana, while working for a breast cancer charity honoring the
life of Linda Eastman McCartney, Sir. Paul McCartney's late wife, who passed away from breast cancer.

Why Motorsports?

Ken has been involved in motorsports most of his life, as a race driver, car builder and team owner. He was also an official for
the PPG/Indycar Series for many years.

What is the focus of the 1in8?

Breast cancer takes the life of one woman ever fifteen minutes. Early detection could prevent many of these deaths. The 1in8
is primarily focused on early detection.

What makes the 1in8 different from any other breast cancer charity?

Aside from our focus on early detection, nearly everyone who works for the foundation, worldwide, does so on a volunteer basis.
As a result, we do not have huge operating expenses and thus can devote a far greater percentage of the money we raise to helping
women with breast cancer.

Are there any other ways in which the 1in8 is unique?

Breast cancer is unfortunately striking younger and younger people so the 1in8 has created a special program called Speedsters,
for those ages 15 to 25.

How does the 1in8 raise money?

There are many ways in which we raise money, including donations from corporate partners and private individuals, but we've also
created a number of exciting initiatives that help drive our other programs. We also have motorsports builders, from all over the
world, who build and donate vehicles to the foundation, that are auctioned off at the end of each year to raise money for the 1in8
and we have just created a new program called The Great University Build - Off, that holds a lot of promise.

Specifically, where does the money go that the foundation raises?

We feel that unfortunately, too often money collected by charities tends to disappear into a black hole and cannot be accounted
for by the people who make donations. Because we do not have paid employees or a huge business infrastructure, we reach out
to people directly, offering aid where needed. Our primary thrust is funding mammograms for those who cannot afford them,
education about breast cancer in general and the specific importance of early detection. Our sister organization, the 1in8 Foundation,
also offers programs that help generate grass-roots community involvement.

I don't know much about Motorsports. Is there another way I can help?

Certainly. www.1in8.org will provide you with many possibilities.
